glass dome

Glass dome on project between artist oil painting sessions.
Keeping dust, lint and other airborne particles settling/contaminating on the long time drying oil paint.
Oil paint palette also covered or changed every couple of days.

Show n Tell: detail and woodgrain "picked".

rags to riches

(oil or acrylic paint) Paint brush cleaning rag/towel of choice: Microfiber General Purpose Cloth.
Lint free. Washable. Reusable.  Available at auto parts stores and auto sections in discount stores.

Don't care to use anything else (paper or cotton) to clean artist brushes due to the fact that others leave paper fibers and lint in the brush and paint applied.

NOT from the school of drying the artist paint brush on the top or back of my hand. I don't want to prepare food or touch someone with oil/acrylic paint all over my hand.  Just my personal preference.

Thank you.

Color Spectrum Selection

Artist oil thinner selection.

Test shot of artist tube oil paint thinned with various agents.
Checking for viscosity, adaptation to pin washes, any lifting of base color and ease of breaking line of demarcation.
Conclusion: I'm most impressed with the Klean Strip Brand, Odorless Mineral Spirits, bought at Walmart.

Prime time test shots.

Test shots done with certain hobby paint primers.
Results: Mr. Surfacer 1200, NO graininess coat of paint.
Bright Touch GP Primer, Some graininess noticed.
Mr. Surfacer 500, much graininess noticed.
Conclusion: My choice is Mr. Surfacer 1200 for model priming paint.
Further conclusion: I don't mind paying extra for what I want and don't have to worry about some "significant other" (wife) questioning or yelling at me about my spending habits! Those days are long gone and in the dust bin.
Thank you.
